In a significant decision, the Andhra Pradesh government has reinstated the original name of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS), reversing the previous renaming to Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences (YSRUHS). The change was formalized with the passage of the Dr YSR University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2024, in the Legislative Assembly.
Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar, along with support from various TDP and BJP MLAs, emphasized that the name change had caused confusion and difficulty for medical graduates whose certificates differed from their university’s official records. The renaming, originally enacted by the YSRCP government in October 2022, has now been rolled back to honor N.T. Rama Rao, the university’s founder.
