Andhra Pradesh Government’s Asserted Advocacy for State Rights

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy emphasized the Andhra Pradesh government’s relentless advocacy for the rights of the state amidst the aftermath of its bifurcation, aiming to deflect blame onto the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for disruptions and losses. Reddy underscored the challenges faced by Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation, highlighting the lack of substantial measures taken by the previous government to address these issues or secure rightful entitlements for the state.

Despite inheriting unresolved matters and strained relations with Telangana, the state government claimed significant achievements in securing funds and resolving pending issues. Notably, they cited the release of a substantial Revenue Deficit Grant, directions for power dues payment from Telangana, and resolution of civil supplies corporation issues.

Additionally, efforts were made to obtain increased revenue deficit grants and revised project costs for the Polavaram Project from the 15th Finance Commission. Reddy asserted that ongoing efforts and cooperation between the state and union governments have advanced resolutions for remaining issues. However, amidst these claims, criticisms from figures like A.P. Congress president Y.S. Sharmila regarding the failure to secure Special Category Status and unfulfilled assurances at the time of bifurcation persist as challenges for the ruling YSRCP.
