Allegations of Corruption Against Jagan Mohan Reddy
Y. S. Sharmila, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president, has strongly criticized her brother, former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of handing over the state to the Adani Group in exchange for a ₹1,750 crore bribe. She claimed that this corruption has shamed both the YSR family and the state of Andhra Pradesh, highlighting that it has now reached a global level, with the involvement of international bodies like the US. Sharmila also alleged that agreements made with Adani, such as the power deals, were detrimental to the state, leading to enormous financial losses.
The disparity in the power rates between Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, she argued, would cost the state ₹1 lakh crore over the next 25 years. Furthermore, she criticized the government’s handling of the Gangavaram Port deal and the pressure to hand over Krishnapatnam Port to Adani, asserting that it exemplified widespread corruption. Sharmila also appealed to the TDP-led government to review all such agreements and to the Telangana government to reconsider its stance on doing business with Adani. Finally, she called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the Adani controversies, urging him to take action following the US arrest warrant against the industrialist.
