Allahabad HC Upholds Hindu Pleas in Mathura Temple-Idgah Dispute

The Allahabad High Court dismissed the Shahi Idgah Committee’s challenge, affirming the maintainability of 18 suits filed by Hindu worshippers and the deity at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple. These suits seek worship rights and the removal of the Shahi Idgah mosque, alleging it was constructed after demolishing a temple in 1669-70.

The mosque management committee, supported by the U.P. Sunni Central Waqf Board, argued that the suits are barred by the Places of Worship Act, 1991. Despite these arguments, the court upheld the Hindu litigants’ claims, marking a significant development in the contentious Mathura temple-Idgah row.
