At least 40 civilians lost their lives in airstrikes targeting Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State in southwestern Sudan, according to witnesses and medical sources. Warplanes carried out intensive strikes on residential areas, including the Al-Sad Al-Ali, Al-Riyadh, and Texas neighborhoods, as well as the popular Al-Malaja market in Nyala.
The Al-Wohda health center received a large number of trauma patients, some of whom were already dead, and the death toll is expected to rise. The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) accused the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) of targeting civilians in air raids and noted that search efforts are ongoing to recover bodies from the rubble.
Sudan has been experiencing deadly clashes between SAF and RSF since April 15, resulting in over 3,000 deaths and more than 6,000 injuries.
