Adyar River Restoration Progresses with Detailed Feasibility Report

The Water Resources Department in Tamil Nadu has reached a significant milestone in the restoration of the Adyar River, as a detailed feasibility report has been completed, and the process to appoint a concessionaire is underway. According to Sandeep Saxena, the additional chief secretary of the Water Resources Department, the Adyar River restoration project aims for comprehensive rejuvenation, with a concessionaire tasked with the operation and management of the project. The river, which is not perennial, will receive treated sewage to enhance water quality.

Additionally, plans are underway to restore the Cooum river in the future. The department is concurrently working on a detailed project report for the rejuvenation of the Buckingham Canal and exploring World Bank funding for waterbody rejuvenation, flood mitigation, and resource conservation projects in Chennai and neighboring districts.
