Advancing Early Detection: AIISH’s Expanded Newborn Screening Program

The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) has significantly expanded its newborn screening program to address the critical issue of hearing loss among infants. Collaborating with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, AIISH is educating medical teams under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) and District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) to ensure early identification of communication disorders in children. With the implementation of state-of-the-art technology, over 60,000 infants are screened annually within seven days of birth, allowing for timely interventions.

Through partnerships with taluk hospitals and outreach service centers, AIISH aims to reach more infants across various geographical regions, ensuring that those at risk receive prompt treatment and support. This initiative underscores the institute’s commitment to improving the quality of life for children by addressing hearing issues early in their development.
