Activist Sonam Wangchuk Calls for Border March in Ladakh

Renowned climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk has announced plans for a border march in Ladakh involving around 10,000 people to demonstrate the extent of land lost to China. Wangchuk, who has been staging a protest in Leh demanding constitutional safeguards for Ladakh, aims to showcase areas inaccessible to shepherds due to Chinese incursions.

The march, scheduled to traverse key locations along the Line of Actual Control, will also draw attention to the conversion of prime pasture lands into solar parks. Wangchuk’s protest underscores local discontent over the failure of talks with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Ladakh’s statehood and constitutional status, signaling growing disillusionment with the government’s promises post the region’s transition to a Union Territory.
