Access Audit at Kilambakkam Bus Terminus in Chennai
Disability rights activists conducted an access audit at the new Kilambakkam bus terminus in Chennai. While they welcomed some facilities such as tactile flooring and toilets, activists provided feedback on other aspects. They found that the ramps were too steep for wheelchair users, there was a lack of Braille signage, and the toll-free assistance service needed video facilities to accommodate a wider range of needs.
The audit was based on directions from the Director for Welfare of the Differently Abled and was prompted by representations from NGOs. The activists emphasized the importance of creating a fully accessible environment for persons with disabilities.
