Aavin’s Summer Advice: Protecting Tamil Nadu’s Milch Animals
Amidst the sweltering heat of summer, Aavin has issued a crucial advisory to dairy farmers in Tamil Nadu, emphasizing the need to safeguard milch animals. With temperatures soaring and water scarcity prevalent in many villages, farmers are urged to provide ample shade and double the quantity of water to prevent heat stress among cattle.
Especially for breeds like Jersey cattle, prone to heat strokes, regular water washes are essential to regulate body temperature and ensure their well-being. In addition to water, farmers are advised to provide soft feed alternatives like straw and corn, as milch animals tend to prefer liquids over solid food during the hot months. Despite challenges, efforts are underway to increase the cow population in the state through government-backed initiatives such as loans for farmers.
