9,634 Arrested for Drug Peddling in Tamil Nadu Over Eight Months
The Enforcement Bureau-Crime Investigation Department (EB-CID) in Tamil Nadu reported the arrest of 9,634 individuals for drug peddling in the state over the past eight months. Between September 12 and 28 alone, 223 individuals, including eight women, were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. During this period, law enforcement seized a total of 386 kg of ganja, 85 g of methamphetamine, and 690 tapentadol tablets, with an estimated combined value of ₹40 lakh.
Throughout the year up to August, 6,824 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered, resulting in the arrest of 9,634 individuals, including 812 from other states. The police also confiscated 17,330 kg of ganja, 726 g of heroin, and 24,511 painkiller tablets statewide. A total of 2,304 persons were convicted, and 137 offenders were detained under the Goondas Act.
