3 arrested for forcing cleric to recite religious slogan
Three men were arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat for assaulting a 44-year-old cleric. The victim is the son of Shahar Qazi, identified as Hafiz Musibur-Rehman. The incident occurred when Hafiz was returning home after offering ‘namaz’ at a mosque.
Three men on a motorcycle intercepted him and targeted him based on his appearance. They misbehaved with Hafiz, pulled his beard, and wrapped a saffron scarf around his neck. The assailants allegedly forced Hafiz to chant ‘religious slogans’. Police reported the incident and arrested the three men responsible.
Hafiz believes he was targeted because of his attire – wearing a kurta pajama and a skull cap. The incident raises concerns about communal harmony and religious intolerance. Authorities are investigating the case to bring the culprits to justice.
