277 Gallantry Awards Announced Ahead of Republic Day
In anticipation of the 75th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu has approved 277 gallantry awards, recognizing the bravery and valor of Indian security personnel. The majority of the awards, comprising 119 personnel, are from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, while 133 are from the Jammu & Kashmir region and 25 from other regions.
The gallantry medals include 275 awards for individuals hailing from various states, with notable contributions from J&K Police, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Delhi, CRPF, and SSB. Additionally, two Police Medals for Gallantry have been conferred upon BSF personnel for their commendable role in UN peacekeeping missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
These awards, instituted shortly after India’s independence, are announced biannually on Republic Day and Independence Day.
