The Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner, Sandeep Rai Rathore, has authorized the detention of 17 individuals under the stringent provisions of the Goondas Act. This move comes as part of the city’s crackdown on crime and maintaining public order.
From January 1 to October 11, a total of 459 individuals involved in various criminal activities, including murder, attempt to murder, theft, robbery, drug smuggling and sales, cybercrime, prostitution, outraging the modesty of women, and rice smuggling, have been detained under the Goondas Act. This highlights the city’s commitment to monitoring and taking action against those who engage in unlawful activities and pose a threat to public tranquility.
