Syria’s northern province of Aleppo has seen the successful renovation of 146 schools that were damaged by the powerful earthquakes that struck on February 6. Mustafa Abdul-Ghani, Aleppo’s education director, reported that an additional 49 schools are currently undergoing renovation. The progress has been achieved through collaboration with both international and local organizations.
A comprehensive agreement was signed with international groups to restore and maintain a total of 347 schools. Despite these efforts, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies recently highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the quake-affected communities.
It noted that six months later, many survivors, especially those grappling with economic hardships, still lack the essential resources needed for rebuilding their lives. The back-to-back earthquakes of magnitudes 7.8 and 7.7 on the Richter scale struck both Turkey and Syria on February 6, resulting in a combined death toll of 59,259, with 50,783 in Turkey and 8,476 in Syria.
