1,432 Workers Killed in Occupational Accidents in Bangladesh in 2023

According to the Bangladesh Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment Foundation (OSHE), a total of 1,432 workers lost their lives in occupational accidents in Bangladesh in 2023. The highest number of casualties occurred in the transport sector (637 deaths), followed by day laborers (220), construction (149), agriculture (146), and manufacturing (94).

Additionally, 502 workers suffered serious injuries. The report highlighted an increase in workplace fatalities compared to the previous year, with 967 workers killed in 2022. Various causes, including road accidents, electrocution, fires, building collapses, and violence, were identified. OSHE emphasized the need for enhanced safety measures to protect workers in Bangladesh.
