On the 11th anniversary of the Nirbhaya incident, Swati Maliwal, the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), stated that nothing has changed in the past decade, and crimes against women in Delhi have increased. Maliwal called for certainty and swiftness in punishments, emphasizing the need for governments to take such sensitive cases seriously. She expressed concern over the rise in crimes against women and stressed the importance of creating a system where justice is assured swiftly and systematically.
Maliwal criticized the lack of fear of punishment among criminals and called for an increase in police strength, fast-track courts, and accountability for negligence. She highlighted the low conviction rate in rape and sexual assault cases and urged schools to include topics in their curriculum teaching boys to make women feel safer and respect them. Maliwal emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address violence against women.
