In a bid to address the persistent issue of human-wildlife conflict in Wayanad district, the State government has allocated ₹13 crore to the Forest department. Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran announced this decision after an all-party meeting and a review session. The government aims to expedite measures to mitigate wildlife attacks, including increasing solatium for victims. District-level monitoring committees will be formed to oversee the situation, involving MLAs, district officials, and political representatives.
Additionally, plans are underway to utilize MGNREGS workers for forest maintenance tasks, pending central approval. The State’s tribal plus fund will be utilized for habitat improvement projects, while strict actions will be taken against private resorts and waste dumpers. Furthermore, the government pledges to cover the medical expenses of wildlife attack victims and intensify efforts to eradicate invasive species within forests.
