Procrastination is a Thief of Time

Procrastination means delaying or postponing an action. When we delay or postpone something we waste our precious time. Sometimes we lose a good opportunity and have to suffer a lot. On the individual level, if a person delays an action, he is alone sufferer. But on the higher level, if a person in power delays something, the whole society or nation or even the whole world may have to suffer. The problem is that time once past cannot be recalled. A thing meant for a particular time will lose its meaning or significance at another time. If you continue to delay studying, you will not get through your exam. If you continue to delay implementing good advice you may suffer a financial or health loss. In fact, delaying in itself is an undesirable act. Promptness in doing an action is important to achieve any worthwhile success. In Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, the hero delays action against the villain on one or the other excuse, the result is terrible. Not only does he get killed but many people perish along with him. If a person at the helm of affairs is indecisive and delays taking any action, he plunges the whole state or institutions into turmoil. Men of action do not delay. They do promptly what is required of them. It is important to realize that time is very important factor in one’s success or failure. That is why, there is an insistence on time management in our corporate world. One who manages his time well achieves success. One who does not lags behind and achieves little success. Laziness, fear of some of kind or moral guilt may be behind one’s habit of postponement. We should think rationally why we postpone something. If we realize our weakness, we are likely to overcome it, and change our habit. The sooner we stop procrastinating the better it is for us.
