Handsome is that handsome does
It means that the real beauty lies in doing beautiful and good actions or deeds. A person who has good, attractive figure is not handsome or beautiful. He is attractive only to our eyes. Such a person may be thoroughly wicked. He may be deceptive and traitor. On the other hand a person may be unattractive or even ugly, but his heart may be of pure gold. His beauty lies in the purity of his thoughts, feelings and deeds. There are a large number of such men in history. Mahatma Gandhi was not physically attractive. Yet he achieved such a high status in the minds of Indians that the whole nation is and will remain proud of him. His selfless deeds for the sake of the country are unforgettable. The simplicity and humility of his character reveal that he had innate beauty of char. Read any of his article, you will be wonder-stuck by the loftiness of his thoughts. Who will, then, refuse to call him handsome. Coal is back, and yet it is very useful. It is used in many ways, to run our machines. Therefore, the real beauty of a person or thing lies in its utility. A beautiful but lazy person is of no use. Nobody will like him or her in the long run. Those who are attracted merely by external appearance are often deceived. A good looking apple may be rotten inside. Similarly, a good looking fellow may be very attractive, and yet he may turn out to be a villain. Therefore, we must recognize the fact the real beauty is the beauty of thoughts and actions. In fact, appearances are often misleading. If you think of all great men who achieved, greatness thought their noble deeds, you will find that most of them were physically quiet average. If they are remembered even now, it is because of their beautiful character. Civilization has advanced because of lofty thoughts and noble deeds and not because of the external beauty.
