THE MADRAS MEDICAL MISSION PARTNERING WITH JOHNSON LIFTS LAUNCHED A MOBILE DIAGNOSTIC CLINIC (MDC) FOR RURAL HEALTH CAMPS
7th July 2021, Chennai: The Madras Medical Mission (MMM) inaugurated a Mobile Diagnostic Clinic (MDC) unit for cardiac screening purpose which was sponsored by the country’s leading manufacturer of Lifts and Escalators – Johnson Lifts. The dedication of the Mobile Diagnostic Clinic was done by H.G Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros; President – MMM today. The mission behind the launch of the mobile unit is to provide easy access to cardiac facility in rural areas.
The mobile unit (Bharat Benz bus) will travel across Tamil Nadu and Kerala with an aim to provide quick diagnoses for patients with cardiac ailments and advise them on the next course of medical and surgical action. The unit is well-equipped to provide detailed Cardiac Screening with equipments for blood investigations like Random Sugar, Blood Pressure, ECG, ECHO and Treadmill. The camp will be held in rural pockets all over Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. M. M. Philip, Hon. Secretary, The Madras Medical Mission said, “Our mission is to serve the poor and the deprived in society by providing quality health care. Preventive cardiac care can help one to reduce the risks of heart disease by identifying the risk factors at an early stage and providing them with the guidance and care to improve cardiovascular health. This camp will facilitate the detection of various heart ailments, such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, and congenital heart disease among the general population, and patients in requirement of follow-up treatment will be treated at MMM.”

The customized air-conditioned vehicle is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and equipments for the accurate and timely diagnosis of cardiac ailments in patients living in rural India.”
Mobile Cardiac Unit – Facilities and interiors:
- The first compartment is for the crew – It comprises of a driver, an assistant, and two biomedical engineers, who will accompany the unit on its camp visits.
- Two exclusive compartments for diagnosis and investigations – one for adult and the other one for Paediatric.
- Investigations provided: Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, Random Sugar, ECG, ECHO and Treadmill.
- The mobile unit is fully air-conditioned and carpeted.
Over the past several years, the prevalence rate of cardiac-related ailments in India has been very high and this phenomenon is observed in rural population wherein the frequency of disease has increased from 1.6% to 7.4%. Patients from lower socioeconomic backgrounds do not have access to quality medical care which leads to delayed treatment, morbidity, and increased mortality.
