PAX Chennai 2024 brings together anime Fans at Phoenix Marketcity
PAX CHENNAI 2024 had six different zones – Stage Zone, Gaming Zone, Culture Zone, Movie Zone, Workshop Zone, and the Dungeons & Dragons Zone – and the Anime and Cosplay communities in Chennai had a blast.
The Stage Zone featured a special industry panel on the Japanese to Tamil dubbing process of the hit anime of the season, Dandadan by Sai Sujith (Okarun), Rithik (Writer) and Akshaya (Momo). The Cosplay Ramp Walk and Contests featured a prize pool of over ₹1,00,000, with special music performances by music band Dot Wav led by Sundheep. The Anime Quiz was conducted by popular quizmaster Abhideep AKA Dipsydoodles, the Chennai Secretary of the Asia Culture Club.
The Gaming Zone featured the Indian Fighting Game Community, board gaming cafes Zolives and The Board Room, Racing Wheels by Logitech and AMD PC Build Masters. A special appearance was made by Steven Medway, the creator of the hit social game Blood on the Clock Tower.
The Culture Zone featured Japanese Games by the Asia Culture Club, Bento Showcases by Lakshmi Ravikumar, Origami Showcases by ArtbyBala, a Voice Synthesiser by India 39 and the Tea Meditation Workshop by Yashi’s Tea Tavern.
The Movie Zone at PVR INOX Pictures LUXE featured a retrospective poster display of all Anime films released in Chennai in 2024, created by the various Anime communities in India led by the Chennai Anime Club. Ravan Forge exhibited animatronics and cosplay displays, while the Chennai Anime Club hosted a Cosplay Prop Shelf available to the public for photography.
The D&D Zone featured expert workshops from all over India. Arvindh Sundar and Sashank Bhat, expert Dungeon Masters from Bengaluru, conducted a series of sessions, workshops and seminars, hosted by Arjun of the Chennai Anime Club, featuring local Dungeon Masters Thara, Kevin, Gokul, Eshwar.
The Workshop Zone featured 4 expert cosplay workshops by invited cosplayers – FOAM COSPLAY WORKSHOP by REAPERSAM AKA Sameer Shaikh from Mumbai, STITCHING WORKSHOP by PURPLEPAW AKA Tejal Mulik from Mumbai, MAKEUP WORKSHOP by KIKU ARTS & KRAFTS AKA Ankita Kemkar from Bengaluru and PAINTING AND VFX WORKSHOP by REDEMPTION PROPS AKA Rohit Kailashiya from Bengaluru
There was also a Manga Workshophosted by Ananth Maruthi and Gowra Hari of Studio Kapi, veterans of Indian manga publishing. The mascot for the event, Hino Apex, with a Phoenix motif, was designed by Studio Kapi. Hino was seen in various avatars throughout the venue, including at the Mini Stage Powered By Ibaco, where community events were conducted by Community Partners Chennai Anime Club, Asia Culture Club, Zolives, Indian Fighting Game Community, SSBIndia, Otaku Nadu, Coimbatore.
