Chennai, 9th March 2021: Honourable Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan virtually inaugurated ‘Minimally Invasive Gynaecology Surgery Centre of Excellence’ during her participation in the International Women’s Day celebration at GEM Hospital Chennai.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan extended her best wishes to GEM Hospital for opening a speciality centre and constantly contributing for the betterment of women’s health. She further appreciated Dr.C.Palanivelu, Chairman, GEM Hospital for his significant achievement in the field of laparoscopy and robotic surgery.

Dr.C.Palanivelu, Founder & Chairman, GEM Hospitals said, “Cervical and Uterus Cancers are the most common cancer types next to breast cancer in India. Early cervical cancer may be easily detected by simple PAP smear test. Since the symptoms are vague and there is lack of awareness among common people, most cases are identified only at a very advanced stage. Lives of cancer patients are much better now with new modalities of diagnostic and treatment like laparoscopy and robotic surgeries. Minimally Invasive Surgery offers added advantages in terms of lesser blood loss, smaller scars, lesser pain, faster discharge and earlier initiation of adjuvant chemotherapy”.

Dr. S. Asokan, CEO, GEM Hospital Chennai said, “The department of endogynaecology at GEM hospital is focusing on treatment of benign gynaecological conditions such fibroid uterus, adenomyosis, ovarian cyst, PCOD, pelvic endometriosis and malignant gynaecological conditions. Our newly inaugurated centre will further focus on Urogynaecological issues such as urinary incontinence and prolapse”.

Dr. Karthika, Consultant Laparoscopic Gynaecologist, GEM Hospital said, “Dr. Palanivelu’s Minimally Invasive Cancer Surgery Centre at GEM Hospital has an exclusive department catering to women’s cancer related diseases like uterus, cervical and ovarian cancers. We provide cervical cancer vaccination regularly at our hospital.
