Successful Rescue of Elephant Calf in Kerala
A two-year-old male elephant calf was successfully rescued late on December 2, 2024, after it accidentally fell into a shallow well in the Pinavoorkudy tribal settlement near Kothamangalam, Kerala.
Forest officials from the Valara forest station, along with a rapid response team and Fire and Rescue Services, worked together to demolish the well’s wall, creating a pathway for the calf’s safe exit. The calf rejoined its herd an hour after the rescue, highlighting the effectiveness of the coordinated effort. Such incidents of elephants falling into wells have been reported before in the region, underscoring the need for preventive measures.
