Mullaperiyar Dam Safety Assured Amidst Public Concerns
Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine has reaffirmed that there is no immediate threat to the structural safety of the Mullaperiyar dam, following a review meeting at the Idukki collectorate. Despite ongoing concerns and public discourse, the government remains confident in the dam’s stability but is proceeding with plans to construct a new dam.
Authorities are also taking steps to curb misinformation, including restricting vloggers who incite fear. The District Collector will oversee dam operations, with preparations in place should the shutters need to be opened. The government is optimistic about a favorable Supreme Court ruling and is considering out-of-court resolutions.
