Tamil Nadu Electricity Tariff Hike: What Consumers Need to Know
Starting July 1, 2024, Tamil Nadu residents will face higher electricity bills as the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) implements a 4.83% tariff hike. The increase, driven by consumer price inflation, affects both energy and fixed charges across all consumer categories. Domestic rates will see hikes ranging from 20 to 55 paise per unit, with the minimum slab rising from ₹4.60 to ₹4.80 per unit.
Common facilities in multi-story apartments and other low-tension categories will also experience higher rates. This hike translates to a notable increase in bimonthly charges, with consumers using 500 units now paying ₹2,565, up from ₹2,455. The new tariffs aim to address inflation impacts while ensuring the sustainable provision of electricity across the state.
