Tamil Nadu Braces for Continued Isolated Rainfall
Isolated light to moderate rainfall is expected to persist over Tamil Nadu until Sunday, with increased coverage forecast for July 8 and 9. Thunderstorms may occur in north Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, during evening or night hours until Friday, influenced by moderate westerlies and westerly wind convergence. Recent downpours have resulted in a surplus rainfall of 11.3 cm against the seasonal average of 6 cm since June 1.
Despite the rainfall, strong westerly winds and clear skies have driven up temperatures, with Madurai airport reaching 40.2°C, the highest recorded in the state on Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department predicts below normal rainfall and day temperatures in July for most districts.
