Chennai Police Crack Down on Defective Number Plates and Unauthorized Stickers
The Greater Chennai City Traffic Police (GCCTP) has intensified efforts to curb the use of defective number plates and unauthorized vehicle stickers, leading to 51,414 cases and fines totaling ₹2.57 crore till May 2023. During a public interest litigation hearing, the Madras High Court was informed of these actions, with 17,818 cases resulting in convictions and ₹89.09 lakh collected in fines.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) R. Sudhakar also reported 6,279 cases involving unauthorized sun films, yielding ₹31.39 lakh in fines. The crackdown extends to misuses of press, advocate, doctor, and Army stickers, prompting discussions on more effective display methods. The police’s ongoing enforcement aims to enhance road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.
