Greater Chennai Corporation to Ban Cattle in Congested Areas and Revive Cattle Yards
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to ban cattle in the city’s congested neighborhoods and revive authorized cattle yards to address the issues caused by stray cattle. Mayor R. Priya, along with officials from the Animal Husbandry Department and the police, discussed strategies to mitigate the civic problems from stray cattle.
The GCC will explore constructing new cattle yards in both city and outer areas like Padappai, allowing residents to house their cattle in these facilities. Cooperative societies will manage these yards and facilitate milk distribution. The Corporation will also increase penalties for stray cattle and implement microchipping to track and identify the animals and their owners.
