Supreme Court Declines Urgency in Impleading CBI and ED in NEET-UG Case

The Supreme Court has rebuffed a request for immediate notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in the NEET-UG 2024 irregularities case, stating there is “no urgency” to intervene at this stage. Advocate Mathews Nedumpara, representing petitioner-students led by Shivangi Mishra, sought the inclusion of CBI and ED, alleging their duty to investigate and punish those responsible for the alleged question paper leaks.

The petitioners argue that the NEET exam has been exposed as a scam with widespread implications, urging action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and Information Technology Act. Despite the Centre’s decision to transfer the case to the CBI, the Supreme Court has set a detailed hearing for July 8, amidst calls for cancellation and re-conducting of the examination due to systemic vulnerabilities exposed by recent arrests and revelations.
