Tamil Nadu Initiates Aadhaar Enrolment Drive in Schools
Starting June 6, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department will launch an Aadhaar enrolment drive in schools to ensure all students can access welfare schemes requiring bank accounts linked to Aadhaar. Equipped with 770 Aadhaar kits from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the drive will be conducted in four phases, involving both public and private educational institutions.
The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) will train officers for this initiative, and school principals are tasked with informing parents and ensuring children over six renew their Aadhaar to include biometrics. The Educational Management Information System (EMIS) will track enrolment progress and facilitate coordination across departments.
