Severe Rains Paralyze Kerala, Submerge Kochi Roads and Disrupt Daily Life

On May 28, Kerala experienced heavy rains with gusty winds, causing significant disruption across the state. Kochi and surrounding areas saw severe flooding, with many roads and narrow lanes submerged, hindering movement and confining residents indoors. Key areas such as Kakkanad-Infopark and Aluva-Edappally were particularly affected by waterlogging.

Thiruvananthapuram faced uprooted trees and overflowing streams, while a landslide occurred near Varkala’s Bali mandapam. The shutters of the Aruvikkara dam were raised due to continuous heavy rainfall, prompting vigilance among nearby residents. Coastal regions reported high tides and rough seas, resulting in two boat capsizing incidents at Muthalappozhi, claiming one life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted continued moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds in various districts, exacerbating the situation.
