Temple Lifting Project to Prevent Waterlogging

In a bid to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon season, at least 20 temples across Tamil Nadu are set to be lifted. These temples, located below street level, faced severe flooding during the last monsoon, affecting even the sanctum sanctorum. The State-level Heritage Screening Committee, under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, has granted clearance for this initiative.

Minister P.K. Sekarbabu highlighted the importance of ensuring regular pujas without disruption, mentioning the successful implementation of this technique at the Karpaga Vinayakar temple in Adyar. Temples like the Nagavalli Amman temple at Avadi and the Chidambareswarar temple in Choolai are among those set to undergo this elevation process.
