Russian President Putin to Visit China for State Visit
Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to make a two-day state visit to China this week, as confirmed by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on May 14. During his visit starting Thursday, Putin will meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
This will be Putin’s first foreign trip since beginning his fifth term in office, and the Kremlin has confirmed the trip, stating that it is on Xi’s invitation. China has been a political supporter of Russia in the conflict in Ukraine and remains a significant market for Russian energy exports. Both countries are increasingly at odds with democracies and NATO, seeking to expand their influence globally.
