Kerala State Electricity Board to Analyze Impact of Solar Power Growth
In response to the rapid growth of solar power in Kerala and its potential impact on the state’s power system, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has formed a nine-member panel to conduct a comprehensive study. The panel, led by the Deputy Chief Engineer (System Operation Circle, Kalamassery), will investigate six key aspects related to the impact of solar power on Kerala’s power system.
This study is particularly important as the state aims to meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewable sources by 2027, according to the 2024-25 State Budget. The panel has been tasked with analyzing the impact of solar power plants on power quality, technical issues related to transformers, and the commercial implications of proposed amendments to renewable energy regulations. The report is expected to be submitted by June 10, aiding KSEB’s efforts to address technical and financial challenges arising from the growth of solar power in the state.
