CPI(M) Accuses Income Tax Department of Witch-Hunt, Vows Legal Recourse

CPI(M) Thrissur district secretary M.M. Varghese criticized the Income Tax department for seizing ₹1 crore brought to a bank for depositing it in the party’s account, stating that the money was taken to the bank as per the direction of the I-T officials.

Varghese alleged that the I-T department overstepped its mandate and froze the account, preventing the party from using the money. He explained that a mistake by the bank in recording the PAN number led to the freezing of the account. The party will seek legal recourse to retrieve the money and fight against what they call a witch-hunt using both legal and political means.
