Telangana Government Mulls Reorganisation of Districts
The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is planning to appoint a judicial commission to review the reorganisation of districts undertaken by the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government. Chief Minister Reddy stated that the previous exercise lacked logic and was done hastily, suggesting that it was driven by political motives.
The government is considering reducing the number of districts from the current 33 to either 17 or 20, based on the recommendations of the judicial commission. Reddy’s government believes that some districts were created to fulfill political needs rather than the genuine requirements of the state. The new reorganisation aims to improve administration by merging smaller districts and ensuring better distribution of resources and administrative efficiency.
