UN Urges UK to Rethink Asylum Seeker Transfer to Rwanda
UN High Commissioners for Refugees and Human Rights, Filippo Grandi and Volker Turk, jointly urged the United Kingdom to reconsider its plan to transfer asylum seekers to Rwanda, warning that it could jeopardize human rights and refugee protection.
The statement comes after British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced plans to begin sending asylum seekers to Rwanda within 10 to 12 weeks. Grandi and Turk called on the UK to instead focus on practical measures to address irregular flows of migrants and refugees.
