Political Turmoil in Himachal Pradesh: Allegations of Electoral Offenses and Counteractions
A tumultuous situation has engulfed Himachal Pradesh’s political landscape following the registration of a criminal case against an independent MLA and the father of a Congress rebel, among others, for alleged electoral offenses related to the recent Rajya Sabha polls. The case, filed by Congress MLAs Sanjay Avasthi and Bhuvneshwar Gaur, accuses several individuals, including Hamirpur’s independent MLA Ashish Sharma and Gagret’s disqualified MLA Chetanya Sharma’s father, of criminal conspiracy, corruption practices, and undue influence on elections.
The crisis emerged after six Congress MLAs defied party whips and voted in favor of the BJP candidate, triggering disqualification and subsequent legal battles. Amidst the chaos, allegations of money trading, misuse of resources, and intimidation tactics have further exacerbated tensions. The MLAs, guarded by the CRPF in Uttarakhand, assert their fight for self-respect, denouncing pressure tactics and accusing the Chief Minister of adopting a vindictive stance. With the state government’s stability hanging in the balance, Himachal Pradesh witnesses a dramatic showdown between political factions, raising concerns about the integrity of electoral processes and the future of governance in the region.
