Fishermen Protest Against Pharma Company in Kakinada SEZ

In a week-long protest, thousands of fishermen in Kakinada intensified their opposition by burning abandoned fishing boats in Uppada village. Their concerns revolve around the potential threat to marine life posed by the activities of Lyfius Pharma Private Limited (LPPL) in the Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ).

LPPL, formerly known as Aurobindo Antibiotics Private Limited, has established a desalination plant near the Kona port area to draw seawater for its construction work. Despite assurances from officials and LPPL spokespersons regarding the safety measures, fishermen remain adamant, fearing the impact on their livelihoods due to the industrial activities in the region.
