Calcutta HC Grants Leave to ED for Contempt Petition
The Calcutta High Court has granted leave to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file a contempt petition against the West Bengal Government for failing to hand over custody of suspended TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh to the CBI as per the court’s order. Deputy Solicitor General Dhiraj Trivedi, representing the ED, requested an urgent hearing, citing the loss of precious time for Sheikh’s custody to the CBI.
The High Court had directed the transfer of investigation to the CBI into a mob attack on ED officials. Despite the court’s order, the West Bengal Government sought urgent listing of its plea in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s decision to transfer the probe to the CBI.
