Indian Delegation Engages with Myanmar Rebels on Infrastructure

Led by Rajya Sabha member K. Vanlalvena, an Indian delegation recently held talks with the rebel Arakan Army in Myanmar to discuss infrastructure projects crucial for enhancing connectivity with Southeast Asia. This engagement underscores the shifting dynamics along the Indian border with Myanmar, particularly in the wake of recent territorial changes wrought by the Arakan Army’s advances.

The meeting took place amidst efforts to inspect the construction of a strategically significant road and other facilities in the Mizoram-Myanmar border region. With the Burmese military forces facing setbacks, the interaction signals a new phase of cooperation and alignment of interests between India and the Arakan Army.

The Arakan Army’s control over Paletwa township on the Kaladan River further underscores their growing influence in the region and its implications for cross-border projects like the Kaladan Multi-Million Transit Transport Project.
