Arrests Made in Veterinary Student’s Death Investigation

Following the tragic death of J.S. Siddharth, a second-year student at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Wayanad, six students from the same institution were arrested by the Vythiri police. The arrests, invoking various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act, were made after initial investigations into Siddharth’s demise, which was initially classified as an unnatural death.

The accused, suspended by the university, faced charges including abetment of suicide and wrongful restraint. Siddharth’s father alleged involvement of local SFI leaders and activists from the same college, pointing to injuries on his son’s body and signs of prolonged deprivation. While opposition leaders echoed accusations of SFI involvement, the SFI denied any role in the incident.

Amidst public outcry, demands for justice led to a protest march by the Youth Congress, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the community’s call for accountability.
