Resumption of Chennai Metro Rail Work Brings Relief to Commuters
After months of disruption, Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) work along the Sholinganallur to SIPCOT stretch is set to resume soon, alleviating concerns of commuters facing severe traffic congestion. Initially met with excitement upon announcement, the project encountered delays, prompting disappointment among commuters who voiced their frustrations on social media platforms like X.
CMRL officials attribute the disruption to subcontractor failures, leading to contract termination and the identification of new firms to undertake the construction work. With plans to expedite the project and ensure timely completion, CMRL emphasizes addressing commuter concerns, including proper lighting and safety measures. Once completed, this phase II project, spanning 116 km across the city, promises enhanced connectivity and relief from congestion along vital routes such as the IT Expressway in corridor 3.
