Marianne Williamson Ends Presidential Bid, Acknowledging Long-Shot Challenge to Biden
Self-help author and spiritual guru Marianne Williamson announced the suspension of her long-shot Democratic primary challenge to President Joe Biden. After lackluster performances in primaries and caucuses, including winning just 5,000 votes in New Hampshire, Williamson faced the decision to exit the race or continue.
Ultimately, she chose to end her bid, garnering only about 2-3% of the vote in subsequent contests in South Carolina and Nevada. In her announcement, Williamson expressed hope that her campaign’s ideas would inspire future candidates. Despite her unconventional campaign style and policy proposals, including advocating for reparations for Black Americans and the creation of a Department of Peace, Williamson struggled to gain traction and funding.
Her departure leaves Rep. Dean Phillips as the last remaining nationally known Democrat challenging Biden, who has solidified his position as the Democratic frontrunner.
