Landslide in Yunnan, China: 20 Dead, 24 Missing, as Search and Rescue Continues

A landslide in the remote village of Liangshui in Yunnan province, southwestern China, has resulted in 20 confirmed deaths and 24 individuals still missing, according to Chinese state media. The disaster occurred before 6 a.m. on January 22, triggered by the collapse of a steep clifftop area. The collapsed mass measured approximately 100 meters wide, 60 meters in height, and about an average of six meters in thickness.

The challenging conditions, including freezing temperatures, falling snow, and difficult terrain, have hampered search and rescue efforts. Over 1,000 rescuers are involved in the operation. This incident follows recent natural disasters in China, including avalanches trapping tourists and a powerful earthquake in the northwest.
