Ennore Residents Demand Health Survey Amid Industrial Pollution Concerns
Residents of Ennore and Manali continue to voice long-standing concerns over livelihood loss and health issues due to industrial pollution, especially following a recent ammonia gas leak from the Coromandel International Limited fertilizer unit. Ongoing protests against the company prompted around 20 women to share the impact of toxic fumes and contaminated water on their health during a public hearing chaired by retired Judge K. Kannan.
Residents cited respiratory issues, skin infections, fertility problems, and thoracic diseases prevalent in the area. Demanding a health survey, the panel, including advocate D. Nagasaila and journalist Kavitha Muralidharan, will submit recommendations to the State government. Residents also called for the withdrawal of cases against protesters. Judge Kannan emphasized the need for a company representative to address the community during environmental incidents.
