Indian Navy Adopts New Epaulettes Inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

The Indian Navy has introduced a new design for Admirals’ epaulettes, inspired by the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Indian Navy will name its ranks in alignment with Indian traditions, and the unveiling of the epaulettes followed this declaration. The new design draws from the Naval Ensign and is inspired by the royal seal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, reflecting India’s rich maritime heritage.

The octagonal shape symbolizes the all-round vision of the Navy, and the design includes a sword representing the Navy’s goal of winning wars through dominance and a telescope symbolizing vision and foresight. The changes align with a broader trend of cultural and traditional influences on military uniforms and symbols in India.
