Easterly Wave to Bring Rain to South Tamil Nadu Until January 1
A fresh easterly wave is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall to parts of Tamil Nadu, particularly in the southern regions, until January 1, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Heavy rain is predicted in isolated places in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, and Ramanathapuram on December 30 and 31.
Although the Northeast monsoon is set to conclude on December 31, some districts, including Chennai, may experience light rain before its withdrawal. Despite record rainfall in south Tamil Nadu and floods in Chennai in December, certain districts face a rainfall deficit of over 40% since October 1, while the state as a whole has recorded a normal Northeast monsoon with 4% more rainfall than the seasonal average.
