Andhra Pradesh Ramps Up COVID-19 Testing Amidst Uptick in Cases
In response to the rise in COVID-19 cases in Kerala and the detection of the JN.1 variant, Andhra Pradesh has taken proactive measures to enhance testing. All RT-PCR labs in the state will be activated, and a minimum of 1,000 RT-PCR tests will be conducted daily. Districts have been instructed to perform a minimum of 50 RT-PCR tests for individuals displaying COVID-19 symptoms.
Rapid Antigen Test Kits will be readily available at Village Health Clinics, and testing will be conducted in major hospitals across the state. While the JN.1 variant is considered less severe, health officials emphasize the importance of vigilance, urging people to wear masks in crowded places. As of December 19, Andhra Pradesh has reported zero active COVID-19 cases.
The state remains watchful, with ongoing reviews of essential medical supplies and oxygen infrastructure in hospitals. Travel restrictions are yet to be imposed, pending further instructions from the Central government, with updates anticipated after a scheduled meeting with the Health Ministry on December 20.
